Working from Senvion’s Edinburgh office, I was in charge of the electrical aspects of five UK windfarms, from initial design to commissioning. This included site visits, to inspect assembly and for final grid connection tests. Compared to my work on prototype wave energy devices, this gave me experience of installing fully developed, mass produced machines. This is the end point that most of the prototype wave and tidal machines are aiming for, although in my experience, optimisations that are desirable for final reduction machines are not necessarily advantageous when applied to prototypes.
